Gazing out the window whilst sat in front of my PC I can see a good number of house roofs. There is a flock of 20 to 30 pigeons on only one roof.

Is there any research that explains why wild pigeons pick a particular resting place?

Maybe that house's insulation isn't very good, so more heat is escaping through the roof and the pigeons are all sat there 'cause that's the warmest roof in the area? Or maybe one flew down there by himself just for the hell of it, and being flock birds, the others all decided to join him ;).

I'm not sure but ...
Urban Pigeons are domesticated Rock Doves, which live on cliffs. So I'm guessing maybe the roof-tops remind them of home?

I'd suggest they stick together for safety in numbers. See if they are on the same roof tomorrow.
