Well, I don't obsess over REM, if that is what you mean. But I do quite like most of their material.

I never said I was a 'True fan', but only that I quite liked their stuff (and admittedly own most of their albums).

That's fantastic! Even Peter Buck looks like he's enjoying himself.

With the benefits of mp3 technology, I booted up my media player and had a listen to She's Not There. Personally, up until just now, I thought it was "The way she acted, the colour of her hair". On closer listening, it really does say "The way she had to have the colour of her hair". Phonetically speaking, it is much more like "hadta av" but the "av" is very short and quiet. It is so funny when you realise that you've been hearing the lyrics wrongly, but once you know what they really are you can hear it really easily. Reminds of the court case about the satanic messages supposedly hidden on certain records which cleared the band when it was demonstrated how you could do the same process with all reversed speech or singing.

My mum used to know some of the members of the Zombies when she was a teenager.

Actually no, I'm neither shiny nor happy.

I'm a sandwich artist, and as such, rather bitter and annoyed about the whole affair.

well you could always resort to the fatima mansions version of the song. as mike mills once put it so correctly - ritual slaughter. :-D

I always thought it was 'the way she acted, the colour of her hair'. Blimey, all these years and I've been wrong.

<suffers moment of severe existential angst>

Thank God, that makes three of us. I was beginning to doubt my "You can still be right even if everyone else thinks you're wrong" theory.

Question is: Why does everyone think it "the way she acted, the colour of her hair," including you two (previously), my stepfather, and the rest of the internet? Were the incorrect lyrics on a Zombies album cover? Does it just seem to make more sense at first?

I always though that 10CC's Dreadlock Holiday went:

Don't you cramp me style
Don't you wee on the beach
Don't you walk thru my words
'Cause you ain't heard me out yet.

Instead of:

Don't you cramp me style
Don't you queer on me pitch
Don't you walk thru my words
'Cause you ain't heard me out yet

Whoops!
