I could not find this topic anywhere else so thought I would open it up.

It might be quite interesting to know that Star Wars only came into being because the rights to Flash Gordon were too expensive for George Lucas to acquire.

It begs one of the more interesting “What If” questions.

Can anyone add anything else that is ‘Quite Interesting’?

My name is Gordon, so I used to be known as "Flash" at school.

In the original 'Flash Gordon' series, the hero earned his nickname as a fast forward football player.
The reason why the soldiers of the Emperor Ming wore Roman armour was because the films were made by a company of studio workers in their spare time at the weekends, when the studios were idle, and they used whatever costumes and sets were around. I think that 'Quo Vadis' was in production at the time.
I used to watch them every week at the Saturday Morning club at the Odeon, back in the forties. I loved the special effects, still do. The space ships were magnificent, and the monsters terrifying.
I thought the remake was pretty good, especially the music.

Yes, Queen was rather good in it.

And it gave us one of the best quotes ever...

"Gordon's alive?"

and it had BRIAN BLESSED! in it.

Well, so did Doctors yesterday afternoon, but I wouldn't recommend it on that basis...

Is there a Cameron anywhere in Flash Gordon? It would be appropriate given the other two main party leaders appear (Gordon and Ming).

And the naffest line ever:
'Flash, Flash I love you. But we only have 14 hours to save the Earth!'

But from a camp POV, that is an excellent (to go with Dale Arden's cheer-leading in possibly the campest homage to American Football I have ever seen).

I rather enjoyed the 'Star Trek: Voyager' tribute to Flash Gordon, especially 'that woman' as the Spider Queen, although the whole tone of the thing was a bit low on campanology.

How much bell-ringing should there have been, then?
