BBC America broadcast half a dozen episodes of QI, but I assume they didn't attract enough of an audience as they haven't returned.

They seemed to quite random as well IIRC.

Hopefully I am not too late to this conversation but if it hasn't already been mentioned HBO (Cable Network) would likely be a good place for an American Qi. HBO is almost entirely void of ads, except for certain parts, and typically you can say whatever you want.

Its in a way like how the simpsons could make fun of Fox and not worry about being cancelled. Lots of free reign. Hopefully that wasn't a terrible analogy.

Just a thought.

No offense to Americans (yeah right), but they don't really deserve QI...

Maybe "deserve" is a little harsh? I think it must be said that certain elements will certainly be lost on an American they will just fill the show with ads and endorsements.

I can see it now: Carson Daily, US Qi master - "fingers on buzzers for the general ignorance round....brought to you by Gatorade!!!"

... really?

1) Most American shows don't get the kind of ad revenue that leads to incessant sponsorships. QI, much as I love it, would not be college basketball.

2) Do you think Americans are inherently incapable of enjoying British humor? If the former, please explain the success of Craig Ferguson, James Corden, and John Oliver (to name a few off-hand).

Good example of US vs UK english there. As a Brit, I've never heard of the (clearly US expression) "[it] would not be college basketball". Maybe you can tell us foreigners what it means!

I am an expat Brit who has lived in the USA for the last fourteen years. College basketball has a huge following on our side of the Atlantic, so I think he just means QI would never be as popular and therefore wouldn't garner the ad revenues.

Thanks for that. I also spend time in the US (my astronomy group is based there) but not for what one would call extended periods. Just never heard the expression before. Ta.

I don't think it's an expression, just a comparison.

Although, to be fair, I've not forgiven the Americans for that little tea incident. I don't think we should give them QI until they agree to convert Starbucks from coffee shops into tea houses, as an act of penance. :)

Since when does Starbucks' stuff count as 'coffee'?

I'm not a coffee drinker. Does Starbucks qualify for coffee flavoured?

Never in my experience, I do remember paying five quid for a Starbucks 'coffee' in Heathrow at 3 am, this was in 2000, so you probably need an overdraft to finance it now.
