I do indeed listen to "Wait Wait, don't tell me!" Also to the Vinyl Cafe (though that's Canadian) and of course Prairie Home Companion.

O My gosh, Prairie Home Companion? He is like 72 and from Anoka Mn and still going strong. I used to live fairly close in Minnetonka. You can email me at ibdiffrent@hotmail.com if you wish to. How funny and witty can Paula Poundstone be? I am also on Facebook but I don't know if you can find me there. Try Mayflow or maybe Mayflow Mayflow. Did you ever watch Red Green?

Mayflow - I've only seen Red Green in clips on PBS, as I've only been in the USA since 2002, but my husband (the native Mainer, who posts on this forum as Woodsman) remembers him well from earlier years.

No offense to Americans (yeah right), but they don't really deserve QI...

Maybe "deserve" is a little harsh? I think it must be said that certain elements will certainly be lost on an American audience...plus they will just fill the show with ads and endorsements.

I can see it now: Carson Daily, US Qi master - "fingers on buzzers for the general ignorance round....brought to you by Gatorade!!!"

... really?

1) Most American shows don't get the kind of ad revenue that leads to incessant sponsorships. QI, much as I love it, would not be college basketball.

2) Do you think Americans are inherently incapable of enjoying British humor? If the former, please explain the success of Craig Ferguson, James Corden, and John Oliver (to name a few off-hand).

Well QI is intermittently on BBC America, although they seem to broadcast a random selection of episodes.

I can't explain the success of James Corden in any country....

I thought we were all Canzukish around here, but I am always glad to greet Americans (no Listerines in our household).

I don't consider the points aspect of QI as important as the banter. Would an American version be willing to allow people to explore the vagarities of non American culture without requiring correct answers and off topic discussion. I believe the US audience is quite diverse but the mainstream may require a different format for commercial appeal
