Hoy hoy - I'm new to the site and have spent the last couple of months bingeing on QI. It's an excellent tonic to writing up a thesis. I'll be done my blasted PhD in six months' time, and in the meantime I look forward to getting to know and love you all.

(I also know that QI is gagging for Fully Qualified Historians on their research staff, so I'm eagerly awaiting the benefits letter in the post.)

I'm not sure about the market for the show in the US - in Canada certainly! (I'm a Canadian expat) - but the audience just doesn't seem right. I imagine that, in the main, they'd take offence quite a bit easier; not to mention that about a third of the big laughs come from taking American piss. I'm sure there'd be a cult audience for it, but mainstream just doesn't seem likely.

In the meantime I'm forcing the YouTube collection on all my North American friends and enemies and enjoying the mighty laughter (punctuated by bemused silences when the jokes turn to football or the Welsh) from across the Atlantic.

Sorry for the long intro! Back to writing hell. x

Hi saraheve, another one of my lot joins the merry band!

I too am a Canadian living in the UK. I've been here thirteen years, and in that time I've married an Englishman, changed jobs from the one which initially brought me here, and taken out British citizenship - so I reckon I'm staying!

Whereabouts in our large nation are you from? Vancouver girl here ...

suze, gratz on the great British lifecycle moments! I brought my Brit with me, thank goodness (I fed him well and walked him twice a day when we were in Canada), so the immigration hassle has been considerably lessened. I'm coming up on five years and we've made a lovely little life commuting between Cambridge and Wimbledon.

I'm from North Van originally, but I did some of my growing up (for my sins) in northern Alberta - Fort McMurray (the last place God made) and Edmonton (mostly lovely).

Looking forward to doing some more exploring! x

Ooh, the North Shore! When I was a kid, I wanted to get married, have babies, and live up a mountain on the expensive side of Burrard Inlet! But if you'd done that, you'd have been very sure to say West Vancouver!

I'm a Canadian of European roots (father's family Polish, mother's Scottish and Irish), and spent my childhood in Riley Park. I've never been to Fort McMurray, but I did live and work in Red Deer for a couple years. The people there are quite keen on God, but I didn't see much evidence of Him there ...

Thank you for saying that, Saraheve. (I agree on Ft. McMurray).

I came the other way leaving the UK during the last Ice Age following the demise of the 'pirates'. I continued in show-biz across the country, ending up in the Edmonton area (St. Albert).

Now slowly decomposing, rejuvenated only by episodes of QI.

Welcome!

Salve, fellow forumists.

Didn't feel like my appearance is worth it's own topic, so I thought I'd say hi here. I did sign the petition, as although I'm European, I wholeheartedly support the world-wide spreading of QI.

English is not my native language, so forgive me my mistakes. Looking forward to exploring all things Quite Interesting with you all.
