So, What Should You Be Doing Instead of Posting on QI?

If I had any sort of work ethic, I'd be proofreading right now. But I've just finished a job and posted it off, and the deadlines aren't too pressing right now. Also I'm fighting off a migraine and have taken an antihistamine which makes me drowsy. So I'm planning to be lazy for the rest of the day.

I should be out in the garden weeding and planting all the new little seedlings... baby plants I do so love em. But the beds need a good cleaning first - the weeds are taking over!

So off I go into the sunshine ...

I've been a good girl - my daughter and I went out into the beautiful sunshine and planted vegetable seeds and some tomato seedlings. Memorial Day weekend is the classic time to do this in Maine - you can plant earlier (and many people have given that the weather has been good for a couple of weeks) but what I've discovered is that if I plant much earlier the seeds I plant later quickly catch up with the seeds I plant earlier once we get to this stage of the spring.

Yep, it's always a bit of a time dodge here.... get em in too late, get no blooms, put em in too early you risk a frost killing em'

Even this week they're calling for overnight lows of 1°C. I did get some seedlings started a few weeks back, but I'll still feeling a bit late... 2-3 weeks ago would have been good.

I guess your climate must be fairly similar to mind, OE, though you're a little further north so maybe a lower zone. We're zone 4b/5 here.

the climate is supposedly a 5b/5a around here.... but the soil condition is a real pain (literally! getting the rocks out the soil on the rock will kill your back). BUT... it's also very grey, foggy and wet in general, we get less sunlight than Nova Scotia or Maine (I do find it interesting that Maine would be 4b, but Nova Scotia is 5a and even 6b in a lot of areas - but that's the impact of the Gulf Stream for ya).

So while the temperatures are close enough that you see similar heartiness we just can't grow stuff like Nova Scotia or Maine or even PEI can.

Yes - we have the joy of the Labrador Current going through the Gulf of Maine that keeps our water icy cold. I haven't been for a swim in the sea near here since I arrived ten years ago.

Yes, sleeping would be good but it was full daylight outside when I woke just before 6am so that has had to go by the wayside.

Another option would be carefully reading the stupid letter from the stupid woman at the stupid HMRC that stupidly claims that despite all previous interaction over the last 5 years they do not accept that what I do constitutes an actual business.
