Question: When was the City of San Francisco claimed by the US from Mexico?
Klaxon: 1846 or any other date.
Answer: In 1846 the town of Yerba Buena was claimed by the US, but it was not until a year later that it was named San Francisco. Last edited by CB27 on Wed Jan 30, 2008 5:40 pm; edited 1 time in total

Never, because there isn't a city called San Francsco. |

Yerba buena's another name for mint if memory serves; does that make SF the Minty City or the Big Mint? |

Pah, I was typing incredibly fast and not noticing my spelling. Fixed now because I hate getting stung by the spelling bees... |

San Francisco has a theatre called Theater Rhinoceros after the mythical and rather camp Lilac Rhino which was once the symbol of a gay rights movement in Boston (US, I would presume not Lancashire) The rowing club to which Hugh Laurie belongs is the Leander club and it is represented by a pink hippo, and the members where pink ribbons on their panama hats. It is a great prize (in a very Wodehousian way , if that's the word?) to steal one of these hats at a regatta. |

The Boston in England isn't in Lancashire either; it's in Lincolnshire. |

The people, (as with royalty everywhere),are terribly inbred.
I checked and the place is full of King Edwards |

For some reason, Sebastian, your post reminded me of the Dali:
