Alan does mention this fear in an episode of QI. I forget which one though.

Surely cyprinophobia must be the fear of carp Cyprinus carpio.

I just watched this one today! It's 2x06, with Bill, Sean and Anneka Rice.

It seems to have a somewhat tortuous etymology; similar to the fear of beautiful ladies, which derives, I'm guessing from 'Venus', it derives from 'Cyprina', one of the epithets of Venus, since she was believed to have been born - in some myths - off the coast of Cyprus and was, among the other responsibilities in her portfolio, responsible for prostitutes and other lewd ladies. The carp's binomial name is from the Greek (generic) and Latin (specific) words for carp or goldfish; I'm guessing the Greek kyprinos (I can't do Greek letters on this keyboard) might make reference to the carp being found on Cyprus.

Either that or carp are well known to be loose in their sexual morals.
