who first said "the needs of the many..."

"The needs of the many out-weigh the needs of the few"
Who first said that?

A friend is adamant in saying that was first said by "Spock speaking to Captain Kirk in the Wrath of Khan."

The quote it to good to be from a mere movie script.

I think your friend is right.

The notion was by no means original, but that precise wording does indeed appear to come from The Wrath of Khan.

I've done some digging around, and it looks like it was first said by Spock in The Wrath Of Khan. Credit to the scriptwriters on this one, methinks.

True, Jenny. BUT, the phrase as written (and thus quoted by a huuuuuuuge number of people, companies, webistes et al.) was first uttered by our half-human/half-vulcan pointy-eared fictional buddy.
