In 1958 a New York City inhabitant called Robert Lane name his baby son Winner.
Three years later, the Lanes had another baby boy (their seventh) and called him Loser.
Against all the odds, Loser was a great success. He got a scholarship to prep school, graduated from college and joined the NYPD where he made detective and then sergeant. His colleagues called him Lou.
Meanwhile Winner, now in his late fourties, has been arrested nearly three dozen times for domestic violence, trespassing, burglary and resisting arrest.
