Some potential maybe in the high-speed photography techniques pioneered by Harold Edgerton (apples being shot, a playing card being split by a bullet, the 'coronet' image of milk splashing taken in 1957, which brought the phenomenon to public notice).

For the purpose of photographing atomic bomb explosions Edgerton created a camera shutter mechanism that had the ability to operate within one-hundred-millionth (1/100,000,000) of a second, although his other work was done with electronic flashguns and exposures of 1/50,000 to 1/1,000,000.

Picture researchers - can we get any of these images?
