Question: Who invented the moonwalk?

Forfeit: Michael Jackson, Jeffrey Daniel, James Brown, Neil Armstrong

The moonwalk was obviously popularised by Michael Jackson, but he got his inspiration from Jeffrey Daniel, member of Soul Group, Shalamar. Daniel was the first person to moonwalk on television, on Top of the Pops in 1982, but wasn’t the man who invented the move. For the first authentic proof of a move which we would recognise as a moonwalk we have to look back another 30 years to a tap dancer called Bill Bailey.

Bill bailey was the son of a preacher born in Southampton County, Virginia in 1912 and died in 1978, the year Michael Jackson began recording “Off the Wall”.

The manakin bird also moonwalks, as can be seen if one googles “manakin moonwalk”. Manakins are strange birds, they are the only known bird who sing with their wings, it’s a tone crested in the same way as a cricket’s chirp, which sounds like it may have come from a violin. Charles Darwin was a big fan of Manakins and used them to demonstrate sexual selection by means of female preference, it is due to the preference of females that both the dance and the noise have evolved.

Bill Bailey was also a baseball player from the 1910s. Billy Bailey was the last man to be hanged in America

You really should check out these videos:

Picture Researchers: I daresay these videos are going to be virtually impossible to clear, but it would be great if we could get one or both.
