Not quite sure what to do with this, but it amused me: Emmeline & Christabel Pankhurst and Annie Kenney made a banner carrying the slogan “Will the Liberal Party Give Votes for Women?” but it proved “impossible to use” (too big, I presume) - thus a new one had to be made which carried the snappier “Votes for women.” That became, from 13 October 1905, the slogan of the women’s suffrage movement.

Less well-known is that the Liberal Party ordered thousands of lapel badges with the answer "YES" on them, but the word was too long to fit comfortably onto the tiny lapels which were then fashionable, so they changed it to the shorter "NO".
