Ants are the only animals besides humans that domesticate other animals. They herd, relocate, guard and shelter mealybugs, which suck delicious sap from plants, giving most to their ant masters.

...and aphids too. They milk the honeydew from the aphids' anuses. Yummy. They also protect the aphids from ladybirds and some other predators.

There are also various species of 'slave-maker' ants. Slave-making ants are brood parasites that capture brood of other ant species to increase the worker force of their colony.

Just been into our garden and there are masses of ants crawling on the patio. I don't think I've ever seen ants so early in the year in the UK.

Ants are quite smart actually. Even the Bible praises them often.
