That is preposterous. If they cannot clean up after themselves, they should pay for a bleaching effect or whatever urine does on various floors.

*Pats myself on shoulder for understanding the German words* (I need something to lift my self-esteem!)

Also very funny. I might even go so far as to call it brilliant.

The German for 'multiplication tables' is 'das Einmaleins', literally meaning, 'the one times ones'.

Contrary to the common stereotype, Germans do have a sense of humour.

Imho, Henning Wehn is a fine example of the German sense of humour.

Very controlled and well organised humour. Funny.

He doesn't do stand-up in Germany and is indeed practically unknown there (outside his family and school friends I guess). Also...

Q: How many Tjemans does it take to change a light bulb?

...

🤔

...

A: One! Ve're efficient and ve don't haf a sense of humour.

And there was me thinking that was a well-established fact.

Seriously, though, our humour god is and forever will be this guy:

And it probably says a lot about us that his comedy doesn't travel outside the German cultural sphere at all. Hence - I guess we do have a sense of humour after all, but it's quite particular.

Having discovered a number of new words translating "adult" jokes at joint re-enactment events in my time, I can assure you that Swabians at least have one.

Hm... Let's say Swabians come in two types. Those that do have a sense of humour are indeed hilarious. Those that don't are best represented by The Glass Bead Game (and indeed Hermann Hesse was one of them), make that tome look like an absolute bundle of laughs in comparison to their conversation, and, thanks to their hardcore pietism, are known to the rest of us as the Pietcong.
