I am a bit of a chicken lover and thought Id add some chicken facts as there dont seem to be any on here :)

There is more than one chicken for every person on Earth.

The chicken is the closest living relative to T Rex (the dinosaur not the rock group).

If you suffer from Alektorophobia, you have a fear of chickens.

Providing that pressure is applied at the ends and not the middle of a chicken egg, a well-formed egg shell can support up to nine pounds of pressure before breaking.

There are four places in the United States with the word "chicken" in their name: Chicken, Alaska; Chicken Bristle in Illinois and Kentucky; and Chicken Town, Pennsylvania. According to lore, Chicken, Alaska got its name because the locals wanted to honor the state bird, the Ptarmigan, by naming their town Ptarmigan, Alaska. But they couldn’t spell Ptarmigan. However, they could spell Chicken. Chicken, Alaska currently has a population of about 2,177

In Fruita, Colorado, the town folk celebrate 'Mike the Headless Chicken Day'. Seems that a farmer named L.A. Olsen cut off Mike's head on September 10, 1945 in anticipation of a chicken dinner - and Mike lived for another 4 years WITHOUT A HEAD. Mike died from choking on a corn kernel.

that's 26 million every day, which placed end to end would reach from the earth to the moon

Shome mishtake? That implies 100 eggs to the mile.

Think of it as some kind of initiation ritual, ladylemoncurd!

Do you have sources for those pieces of information?

I'll start off with Chicken AK. It seems that the original intention was to call the place "Ptarmigan" (i.e. with quotes as part of the name), but that first they dropped the quotes and then indeed decided that in any case they weren't quite sure how to spell Ptarmigan - so Chicken it was.
