I've just seen a tweet from someone that says "Did you know ... Elephants can't jump. Every other mammal can."

It seemed like the kind of thing some clever QI fan might know about.

It's true that elephants can't jump, but I'd be wary of the assertion that no other mammal shares that property. For a start, what's the deal with marine mammals? Can a whale jump?

Even if we restrict ourselves to land mammals, I doubt it's the only one.

Whales, of course, sorry >.<

Just got this reply from the Elves on Twitter:

RT @TheMadderHat @mandythetwit Elephants can't jump. Every other mammal can. That's what you think.

But I would be interested to know if there are any more applicable land mammals. (Can't exactly imagine airborne giraffes, for one thing...)

Maybe it's not even big things...I mean, with those cute stubby little legs, can a hedgehog jump?

Whales do indeed jump.

And apparently they like fiddle music

White men are mammals and are known for their inability to jump.

If we mean leave the ground under their own locamotion, then giraffes will certainly do this when they gallop.

Hedgehogs don't have stubby little legs - but I've not see one jump.

Moles, on the other hand - are another matter, and I doubt they could jump.
