Bolton council are vetoing plans for a working mine to be built in what was Fred's back yard. It was his lifelong dream, but unfortunately the plans are prohibitively dangerous.

What is likely to happen is one of Fred's favourite engines will be mounted in the town centre. Personally, I'd prefer a gigantic, solid gold, flat-cap in the town square.

I used to love those programmes Fred Dibnah did. As well as the steeplejack ones, he did a cracker of a series about the Industrial Revolution. Maybe we could use Dibnah to link to something interesting about steeplejacks?

UKTV history is repeating a lot of the Fred Dibnah series at the moment. He is a very likeable person. I liked the series when he toured britain on his traction engine (just before he passed away). I bet he knew a lot of QI factoids.

I think he was one of the first Reality TV Stars. I really liked his stuff, as opposed to Reality TV these days, as it was full on QI facts on the buildings and chimneys that he was bringing down, and on the areas they were in.

Fred Dibner <3

My whole family love him, it's rather scary, but also interesting to find out why. =]

Thanks for the kind offer Tas.

But I've risen above it. Really, I have. And you were rude about the delectable Alan in the Twisty game.

And wtf is a "steeplestack" anyway? Here's was me thinking that what the lamented Mr Dibnah used to be was a steeplejack. Clearly I was wrong ...

Peace, love and understanding, Suze

I have to confess as to not having a clue to who Fred Dibnah is. Would anyone care to enlighten me? Or should I get off my lazy butt and google him?
