Cat fur is different to dog fur - they don't have an undercoat so can get hypothermia if they get soaked and then not dried off properly. Some cats are weird, though, and seem to like water. The only species of feline which really likes water is the tiger - they wade around in it to keep cool.

My cat was fascinated by water until she felt the coldness of it. She used to run into the bathroom when the water was draining away and just stare at it.

Why do cats lick themselves dry?

Probably for the same reason that those hydro-sports towels are used when wet. Because they are already slightly damp, they are more easily able to absorb water.

(If you put a completely dry sponge in the bath, it doesn't take up water until you squeeze it, but if the sponge is already slightly wet, it will absorb water much more readily.)

Some of the Turkish Van cats like swimming.

It has been known for Turks to swim in the bath, swimming pool or even the sea. So be warned they may come and join in your daily shower.

Does a cat taking a shower count? A cat I have 'obtained' through no means of wanting one but IT wanting me, seems to think a morning shower is routine for all including him.

Cat fluff in the bottom of the shower is not nice.

My nutrition lecturer last year taught us that domestic cats don't actually have a natural prefrence for fish, the pet food companies advertised cats as liking fish because at that time fish was the cheapest source of protein to buy.

Something cat related that always puzzled me...

A certain brand of toilet tissue (can't remember which) used to advertise itself as "kitten soft".

How did they know? Did the R&D team wipe their arses with kittens?

Just off to the Cats Protection...

Should you wipe with or against the fur?

I read this somewhere and it made me smile. Thought I'd share.
