The O rings on the space shuttle were actually sausage-based (due to the required flexibility). But the low-temperature performance was poor, as demonstrated by Richard Feynman.

KLAXON!!

The reason they didn't continue with the use of sausage-based O rings was not, as was popularly thought, because of poor performance. It was, in fact, because the multimillion dollar deal with Wall's fell through because Wall's weren't given permission to use the information in its advertising campaign.

Not sure about the wall thing, but I do know that they have been used for insulation of domestic properties throughout Europe.

What about....

Mashing them up and using them as paint?

Tesco Finest do cocktail sausages in links, which make great worry beads (or, dare I say it, rosaries).

Is anyone actually counting the uses?
We could use sausages to count.

I was wondering if we're anywhere close to 1720 (or however many it is - can't see title while I post!). I think that was rather a low target. I'm sure we could think of lots more :).

If we had rechargeable sausages, then we could potentially get thousands of uses out of a single chipolata.

Unfortunately it'd be the same use - as a battery. Damn!

BTW: Thanks for the heads up on the walls deal, Bemahan. Wasn't aware of that. Still liked the TV stunt though.

If you're looking to get out of going over the top in the First World War, and haven't got any pencils handy, you could stick a couple of sausages up your nose as a replacement. Don't forget to put your pants on your head and say 'Wubble', though.
