hi zebra,

you ask about behaviour of elephants.

I was reading recently that due to its stange legs and enormous bulk during sex it does not use the thrusting action which we so enjoy. as muscles along its penis contract and relax to give the same effect without the elephant breaking sweat; in fact it's over in a minute.

you can check where i found this gem in the section entitled 'Mating Game'

How he got into my pyjamas I'll never know."

A classic joke is:

What is grey with a trunk?
A mouse going on holiday

What is brown with a trunk?
A mouse coming back from a holiday

QI is the craze for the absurd elephant jokes of the 1960s which has its own entry on wiki

Do elephants really become intoxicated by eating rotting fruit from the marula tree? National Geographic experts seem to think otherwise based on the large size of the elephant and the amount he/she would need to consume in a specific amount of time to become truly drunk. However, individuals respond differently to alcohol. Yes? Therefore, I would hesitate to blame the bad behavior of an elephant on intoxication by marula fruit. Perhaps rampaging elephants feel threatened and act out instinctually.

I thought that the old video "evidence" had been debunked. The filmmakers wanted shots of animals eating the rotting fruit and getting drunk, but none would cooperate so the filmmakers rounded up a suitable group of nearby wildlife and loaded them with tranquilisers.

The result was as famous and as fake as the lemmings going over the cliff.

Hmm, not one of Canada's finer moments, wasn't that.

It involved a movie lot near Calgary, a wooden turntable made by the props guy, and a pool cue.

I saw that "documentary", but I don't remember them launching one at a time, at high velocity...
