An American, on another Forum I frequent, has a signature concerning bears i.e. Either you get the bear or the bear gets you!

The grizzly bear does not hibernate. They spend the majority of the winter in some small enclosed space, often a cave or hollow, and will tend to sleep for much of the time. However, they will be easily woken and they will regularly emerge from their den during the winter

I love this fact, its great, what they undergo is called daily torpor, which is also a bit of a mystery.

I love arguing with people that bears don't hibrenate, they are simply too big for it to be even an option to them

Regarding the difference between brown and black bears, a friend of mine swears that this is true, but I am somewhat sceptical. According to him, the difference is "a brown bear will kill you, but you could 'ave a black bear in a fight."

I don't suggest anyone rely on that advice.
