Let me start with a question.
Barbados received it's name from the Portuguese Explorer Pedro Campos
He named Os Barbados after what ?
(a) The inhabitants all had beards
(b) The island was uninhabited but all of his crew had beards
(c) The fig trees that grew there
I'll let you all have a little whil and post the answer later

Didn't he think that the trees along the shore looked like beards?

On the radio every morning they have a bloke who reads out details of all the funerals due to take place on that day, in a very lugubrious voice.

A recurring theme in Barbadian politics is that they would like to become part of Canada, for some reason.

They also make excellent rum

I think most drinks you can buy in bars over there tend to be mainly rum-based.

Quote:
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados Nov 8, 2006 (AP) Ravenous giant snails that emerge from the ground by night are thriving on the tropical island of Barbados, destroying crops and prompting calls for the government to eliminate them.

A nocturnal survey last weekend found hundreds of thousands of African snails which are often about the size of a human hand swarming the central parish of St. George, the country's agricultural heartland, where farmers complained of damage to sugar cane, bananas, papayas and other crops.

"We saw snails riding on each other's backs and moving in clusters," said David Walrond, chairman of the local emergency response office that organized 60 volunteers for the expedition. "You're just crunching the shells as you're walking through."

Quite interesting is that unlike most of its Caribbean neighbours which are volcanic in origin Barbados is built up from layer upon layer of coral
