This is one of MatC's:

Just in case you were wondering who they were:

Sir Arthur Lewis - Economics, 1979.

Derek Walcott - Literature, 1992.

When I was last in St Lucia I met the women's national netball captain. I don't think she was a nobel laurete though, probably didn't have the time after training.

Does this qualifty for least QI post of the forum?

Francoise Le Clerk was the first European to set foot* on St Lucia.

He is famous to me as the only pirate I can find who actually had a pegleg.

*literally "foot" then.

After defeating the Arawak, The Caribs named St Lucia Hewanorra, meaning "The Land Where the Iguana is Found". This is now the name of St. Lucia's international airport.

For 150 years until 1814, St Lucia swapped hands between Britain and France 14 times.

On Tuesday 16 April 2013 fifty five passengers were held up by three gunmen on a bus in town of Soufrière and robbed at gunpoint.

For a population of 176,000 (2011) St.Lucia recorded 44 murders in 2010, 39 in 2011, and 37 murders in 2012. Concern about St Lucia being labelled as a problem crime area was raised by a government minister over a year ago. The threat that such a reputation could do to the tourist industry is sadly too obvious.
