In Japan, there are musicals performed in two-and-a-half dimensions which give special glasses to audience members so they can enjoy them properly.

A "2.5D Musical" is a live-action stage musical adaption of an anime or manga, the name coming form the fact it is a 2D work being performed in 3D, so it cross between the two dimensions.

The genre has grown to the point that in 2014 a trade body called the Japan 2.5-Dimensional Musical Association was formed. It is this body that gives out the special glasses. These glasses display translations of the dialogue in four different languages for non-Japanese speakers, so they too can watch the show.

For an example of such a show, here is an official video of a recently debuted 2.5D Musical, xxxHOLiC (pronounced "holic") by CLAMP. This is perhaps most interesting in that this is an manga created by an all-women group, while the musical features an all-male cast.
