I've just learned that Wincanton is twinned with Ankh-Morpork.

The twinning ceremony included a good deal of dressing up and a short speech by Lord Vetinari (written by Sir Terry, of course).

No one who has experienced the glacial performance of the Wincanton logistics company would have any difficulty believing they share a technology based on piles of turtles!

Whitwell in Rutland declares on its signs that it is twinned with Paris. The Chairman of the parish council apparently wrote to the Mayor of Paris proposing the twinning and saying that if they did not hear back, they would take that as an acceptance.

In Perthshire, the hamlet of Dull is twinned with Boring, Oregon.

In the 1950s Plymouth had a left-wing City Council which determined to twin with somewhere in the Soviet Union. They twinned with Novorossiysk, a Soviet naval port just as Plymouth is a major Royal Navy base. They proudly named a new road 'Novorossiysk Road', but locals can't pronounce it, so it is usually known as 'Russian Road'. The council also twinned with Gdingen - how locals say 'Gdynia Way' I can't say.

Dull and Boring have, of course, been joined by Bland in New South Wales in what could be termed a Triumvirate of Tedium.
