Still in limbo, really...

I was sort of hoping that more people would have signed up by now and a consensus would have formed around one of the options, but that hasn't happened. If you'd like to switch your vote to break the deadlock, please go for it!

The date needs to be decided as well, but I think Jenny should take the lead on that as she has limited time in the country and other commitments that take priority.

I am proposing to leave this all open for another month or so.

Well I'm pleased to see that Avebury has received another vote, so although it looks like a three-way tie it's actually Avebury 3, Brooklands 2, Henley 1. We finally have some movement...

Even if we don't decide the venue until mid-October, Jenny, could I ask for the date to be decided by the end of September please? I'm probably going to have to start doing things for the Jobcentre during October, and I'd rather know the date in advance so that I can work round it if possible. Thanks.

OK fair enough.

Can I suggest Saturday 6th of November? I was thinking about the previous weekend, when I noticed it was Halloween, and it occurred to me that what with Avebury being a stone circle there may be people wanting to do spooky things there on that date which might lead to a larger crowd than some of us might be comfortable in.

At the moment I am assuming that Avebury is the likeliest venue since it has the two vital facilities of something many of us are interested in and a good pub. As well as the obvious stone circle at Avebury itself, there's also Silbury Hill and the West Kennet Long Barrow within a very short distance.

I will call the Red Lion nearer the time to see if we need to book space.

Any comments from anybody?

I'd be delighted with Saturday 6th November at Avebury.

Trainline tells me there's no Avebury station. What's the nearest or most convenient (not necessarily the same thing) railway station? Being a non-driver, I can only get anywhere by train, and then taxi from the station to wherever the destination is.

Probably Swindon - see post 1387938.

It's about ten miles, but there are buses from Swindon to Avebury: see post 1387956. Car-pooling arrangements have also been suggested in post 1387957 and post 1387985.

Robbie I would be going past Swindon on the M4 to get to Avebury and would be very happy to transport you. Alternatively, if it's easier for you to get to Watford or Hemel Hempstead, I can pick you up from there as that's more or less where I'm starting from.

I could also pick you up. Preferably from Bristol Parkway, as it's less than a mile from my house, but I could easily detour to Swindon if that suits you better.

I would always recommend that as a lifestyle choice - it is far better to pass it and keep going...

Just to recap, then:

(1) Saturday 6th November has been proposed as the date, to be confirmed by 30th September. If you have any objections to that date, please post them before then.

(2) The venue is to be decided by the second week in October. At the moment, Avebury looks the most likely option.

Is there anyone who needs to book advance travel tickets before the middle of October?
