Thanks to the man who knows about these things, the bus schedule for Avebury.

He is not delighted to see that Stagecoach are back to using fairly random colours in their publicity material, and tends to think that anyone who thinks yellow on white is a good idea ought to make their career in some other sphere.

As company policy, face coverings are still compulsory on Stagecoach services.

EDIT: Thanks to the man who knows where to look for related information, the fare from Swindon to Avebury is 3.20 single, 5.50 return. They still take cash.

I would be on the M4 (as would Big Martin be presumably, whether or not we carpool) so Swindon would hardly be a major diversion.

I shall be driving along the M4 so Swindon would be a good rendezvous point.

Thanks for adding Avebury in the poll, Jenny. As I said earlier, I've switched my vote from Henley-on-Thames so please count one extra for Avebury in the totals.

I think, Brock, that if you go back and edit the post in which you voted for Henley you can change it from Henley to Avebury. I don't know which post that was so I can't do it. I'm not certain this would work but it's worth trying.

As I said in the other thread, I've tried re-editing the opening post and it doesn't give me the option of changing the poll at all. I don't think it's possible for anyone to change their vote. I'm starting to wish I hadn't set up the poll - it seemed like a good idea at the time!

Anyway, it seems that we currently have two votes each for Brooklands and Avebury, once my switch is taken into account. Any more takers?

EDIT (22 Aug): I've decided to go up to London tomorrow for a few days - probably returning Friday. I'd appreciate it if no definite decisions are taken before I return. The poll remains open until 1st September, but can be extended if necessary (I assume).

I went to Henley-Upon-Thames recently. Would like to go there again.

There is no deadline for decisions until maybe the middle of October. I don't think it's reasonable to ask people to fix things this far in advance.

Can you extend the poll dates then, Jenny? I set it to run for 14 days initially.

Having driven to Chessington and back yesterday, I now know that Brooklands and back in a day is doable for me, but it would make for a long day.

It has also occurred to me that, if we decided to make it central London for convenience, I could drive to the end of the Central line at Epping, take the tube into town, then on my return, I would be but a few miles from my friend in Harlow for an overnight sofa surf.

I'm not sure what you mean by "central London for convenience". If the meet goes ahead at Brooklands, then I'm not planning to come into central London - I was intending to travel by the shortest route from Bath to Weybridge station, changing at Reading and Virginia Water.

Of course you could still leave the car at Epping, get the tube into town and then the train from Waterloo, but I don't know how much that would add to your travelling time.

If you wanted to spend the night at your friend's place, wouldn't it be easier to drive straight to Weybridge in the first instance and then get the M25 round to Harlow afterwards?

Or have I completely misunderstood?

In post 1387746, Jenny vaguely suggested London as an option. In the subsequent post 1387751, I commented that it would probably involve an overnight stay for me if we went for that option. I was merely mentioning that I have figured out a working solution for that case.

Sorry for any confusion.

Ah - sorry, I did completely misunderstand! Got you now.

London doesn't look very likely anyway - no one's voted for it so far. I wouldn't be too keen because I've been up and down to London three times in the last five months and I wouldn't mind going somewhere else!
