John Swartzwelder was the most prolific writer in the history of the Simpsons, having written 59 full episodes. According to Mat Groening, he did all of his writing in the same booth of a coffee shop drinking copious amounts of coffee and smoking endless cigarettes. When California passed anti-smoking laws, he bought the booth and had it installed in his house, so he could continue his work unchanged.
He was given special dispensation by the Simpsons writers room to send in his scripts from home as smoking wasn’t allowed in their offices and his scripts needed so little re-writing.
