Q: How would singer David Essex react if you accused him of being a gypsy?

A: He'd pat you on the back for being right.

Don't ask...but I was looking up David Essex the other day, and found out that several members of his family are gypsys. Furthermore:

Quote:
He has also become patron of the Gypsy Council which aims to improve conditions for Gypsies and Travellers in Britain. He narrated and appeared in a video of Gypsy life and traditions early in 1999 – this is to be sold to aid their cause.

This is the Romany national anthem, as adopted in congress 1971:

I have travelled over long roads
I have met fortunate Roma
I have travelled far and wide
I have met lucky Roma
Oh, Romani adults, Oh Romani youth
Oh, Romani adults, Oh Romani youth
Oh, Roma, from wherever you have come
With your tents along lucky roads
I too once had a large family
But the black legion murdered them
Come with me, Roma of the world
To where the Romani roads have been opened
Now is the time - stand up, Roma,
We shall succeed where we make the effort.
Oh, Roma adults, Oh, Roma youth
Oh, Roma adults, Oh, Roma youth.

Got to admit, it’s a bit more stirring than Gawd Help the Queen. But then, so are my dog’s farts, and I haven’t even got a dog.

Perhaps Jimmy “Adolf” Carr could have it as his buzzer noise?
