Sorry as this is going waaaay back (and, again, apologies if this has been discussed before but I couldn't find anything relating to this).

In the GI section of the show, Stephen discusses Barry the Saint Bernard who saved the lives of 40 people but was killed by the 41st person he found.

However, Graham Robb, in his book"The Discovery of France", claims that this story was made up long after Barry's death and Barry actually "retired happily to Berne in 1812" and died of old age two years later. Later he was stuffed and mounted in the Berne musem, and apparently had has skull altered at some stage to make him look more like a modern St Bernard (which is sadly ironic given the myth surrounding his death in the line of duty). And if you search the website for the museum there is indeed an exhibition about Barry the legendary Saint Bernard.

Well that's interesting, and you never know, it may eventually make its way into the fabled and long-heralded but not as yet apparent Retractions Special.

Thanks.

If Barry could make a return to the show that would be fantastic. I think it's the least he deserves. He certainly deserves better than this:
