For the question of what kind of saw do you use to make a jigsaw, answer fretsaw, you displayed a coping saw. A fret saw is similar but has a much deeper frame kind of an elongated coping saw by about 3 times. The coping saw displayed could cut the edges of a jigsaw but would not be deep enough to cut the centre

Thank you goppy! That's the kind of nitpick we like around here :-)

Once youíve cut the edges away, what was the centre eventually becomes the edge.

True I suppose but then the elves should have answered a coping saw rather than a fretsaw. Fretsaw as name suggests is for fretwork. TBH the depth of fretsaw makes it awkward to maneuver, so like Alfred's suggestion above, you would use coping saw until it reached it's depth

I have my own homemade saw for these purposes. Had to do because nothing else fit. but it was not difficult. just measure the size you need, then I made fasteners on a metal rod, which bent well but was strong enough. And then I made the base for the handle and welded it to the mount. machined a wooden handle. and for fastening the cutting blade I made hooks at the edges, it turned out perfectly. Iíll take a photo somehow when I find a tool
