Ah yes. the science
Quote:
With over 3 billion airline passengers annually, the inflight transmission of infectious diseases is an important global health concern. Over a dozen cases of inflight transmission of serious infections have been documented, and air travel can serve as a conduit for the rapid spread of newly emerging infections and pandemics.

I can certainly attest to suffering from colds and other respiratory problems after every transatlantic flight I've had.

Just to point out that the paper cited by barbados was published in March 2018, long before Covid, and takes no account of the measures currently in force to limit transmission.

Correct enough, however what it does study is the effects in a plane of the SARS virus, which. like Covid is a coronavirus.
The link (from Delta Airlines) cited by Jenny, doesn't appear to take into consideration the removal of masks while on the plane for 8 hours. It also suggests that there has been no recorded cases from air travel, and as such it is "safe", but the virus affects so many people in so many different ways, it's impossible to tell where anyone caught it.
I'm not suggesting one is correct and the other is wrong, just that for someone who pulled me up because I felt it was safe to go mask free outdoors, where I can keep my distance from others is quite happy to get into a metal box where air is recirculated, with no escape, it is an odd suggestion to make.

You're supposed to keep your mask on during travel. At least, I intend to.

On a 6.25 hour flight you aren't going to eat or drink?

I frequently go six or seven hours between meals, why should it be a problem?

Who is suggesting it would be a problem?

You seemed to be in the post above mine, perhaps I misunderstood.

I was merely enquiring.
If as you suggest the journey can be made without the need for refreshment, then great - I've done it a number of times and not eating isn't too much of a problem, however not drinking in the dryness of the cabin? that is a different kettle of fish. Not something I could do - although others may be able to without difficulty.

The relatively current advice on air travel is to remain masked and not to eat or drink during the flight. Whether that's advisable for an individual is perhaps dependent on their own health situation.

Nit that flying is fun anyway, but that is going to make it less appealing.
On a flight to London, that is pretty much all day without drink in a dry atmosphere.
