Quality Street

On the programme this week, Quality Street was being discussed, and Sandi said that there were 4 streets in the UK called Quality Street. She then gave the location of one in England and then said, "the other three are in Scotland".

Why give the details of the English one and not the Scottish ones? This betrays the colonialist mentality that pervades the south east of England.

It is the same with radio phone-ins. The presenter will say that a caller is from Manchester, South London, Hull, etc, but only if the caller is resident north of the border, then they are identified as being 'from Scotland'.

We have cities, towns and villages here, too, you know.

(Incidentally, there are 7 Quality Streets in the UK, not 4.)
