"Dring", in Welsh, is the 2nd person singular imperative case of "climb" - a command to climb, therefore. Happily it also sounds like a certain kind of bell, so when a well-meaning hymnist wrote "Dring i fyny'n uchel - dring! dring! dring!" ("Climb ever higher - climb! climb! climb!") and based the whole chorus of his hymn on this pattern, it inevitably became known as The Telephone Song.
