Further drama for my friends, accompanied by a photo on FB.
The main kitchen sink tap has broken off, just what they don't need when they can't get a plumber in for the next ten days.

We have had a mole under our lawn for a while. We hoped the kerfuffle of the fence erection might have scared him off, but 'twas not to be.
So Peter the molecatcher was summoned. He set his traps last Friday, and came back this morning to check.
Result, one deceased mole. We had hoped he would catch it live and release it back into the wild somewhere, but it appears this is not permitted-- they have to die, which seems a shame.

We got to chatting and I asked him where he was from, as he has quite a noticeable accent. He was pleased when I said I could tell he wasn't a Geordie. He was brought up in Hexham, and was born in Haltwhistle, which many hereabouts will remember as being the stamping ground of our dear friend, 'yorz. For them as are interested, I am still in contact, and she seems fine 😄

And, as luck would have it, I sent an e-mail to the lady, and she promptly called in the phone!

Fed up with the state of the world, as ever, and suffering more from COPD.
But managed to amuse me greatly with a..... not malapropism, not a mondegreen or even an audible yougreave. She was talking about the music streaming service Spotify, and referred to it as 'Stupefy'. I have been chuckling most of the time since then....

I am also in contact with 'yorz sporadically. She donated a kidney some while ago, and doesn't seem to have been in stellar health since, though obviously COPD wasn't a direct consequence.

From one who received such an organ, give her my best regards, and thanks for her generosity.

That is indeed a very generous thing to do, and very brave. I'd chicken out and feel guilty for chickening out.

As I find Spotify baffling, Stupefy is a fine description.

I picked up a garage door catalogue the other day, in case the job I went to proved irreparable and the client needed to choose a new door. Anywho, I was browsing through it this morning, vaguely thinking about a roller door for my putative workshop. The following price guide was appended;

If you look closely, you will note that it has more headings than columns, and more side headings than rows, which makes it rather difficult to work out prices. Fregsample, how much would a door 2500mm high and 1500mm wide cost? Is it 1853 or 1924?

Assume the most. It's badly laid out but I'd take the 1000 column (it's either that or the 6000 column) as being empty and the same for the 1600 row (or 3100 one).

I wonder if it's expressing ranges of size - for example the topleftmost cell is the price for doors from 1600x1000 to 1800x 1250. Still doesn't answer your specific question though.

Was thinking the same. That said, it doesn't make the layout any less lousy.

I've recently been re-reading some of Edward Tufte's books on the visual presentation of information. He'd scream if you showed him that.

I met a lady today who has been dealt quite a rotten hand in life, in terms of health and well-being.
One story stood out.
Her husband was physically abusive, and on one occasion her daughter got him off her by dragging him off by his earrings... which ripped clean out.
She is no longer with the man, and her daughter has been given an award for how well she looks after her mum. She sounds like quite a fine kid!

Quite a fine kid strikes me as a severe understatement there. I also hope they're both getting help for what that bastard must have done to their mental health.
