Well, er, that's it, really.

How very odd...doesn't really sound believable. Is this 'swimming pools' generally or public ones or what?

There certainly are not more swimming pools in Paris than the whole UK.

However, there are more OLYMPIC sized swimming pools.

Well there's Observer journalism for you.

So how many Olympic sized swimming pools are there in the UK?

And can I have a special bonus point for having swum in an Olympic swimming pool in the UK?

(It's not Olympic sized, but the Olympic swimming events were held there in 1908 when the rules were different. It later became the swimming pool of City University in Northampton Square, Islington - and I took a bit of R & R there when I attended a conference at that university in around 1991.)

It seems Olympic pools must be 2m deep at all points as well as 50m long and 25m wide.

84906.  Wed Aug 09, 2006 11:13 am Reply with quote reveals that there are 34 municipal swimming pools in Paris.

Doesn't sound like very many, even if every one of them is Olympic-sized.

How many swimpools of Olympian status are there in the UK, then?

There are currently 11 50m pools in England (including two under construction).

Ah, but some of them won't be Olympic-sized, because they'll not be deep enough (2 metres) or wide enough (25 metres). The pool in Manchester used for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, for example, is only 20 metres wide.

Yes Samivel, but the context of the discussion implied (to me at least) that Hoey was talking about olympic-sized pools.
