Marco Polo's name

On Book of general Ignorance, first published in 2006 and printed by Mackays of Chatham, at page 21, there is a question about Marco Polo: where did he come from ?

The reply begins as follows:
"Croatia.
Marco Polo (or "Mark Chicken" in English)... "

Well, Marco Pollo could be Mark Chicken: a "pollo" has two legs, two wings, and two "l"s, but "Polo" should translate as "Pole" :
Polo Nord ---> North Pole
Polo Magnetico ---> Magnetic Pole

But I suppose Marco has already informed you...

Good point Alberto, and welcome to the forums.

I wonder if the compilers of the book were deliberately taking liberties in order to make a silly joke, or if their grasp of Italian really was that bad! :)
