There's a really interesting history of Quoits here that mentions the origin potentially being the similar game of horseshoes, or taught by french troops during the Battle of Agincourt, resulting in the term "Frenchman". It also refers to that shape of the quoits:
"The quoit is not a simple iron ring, but more like the rim of a saucer, with an inner and outer slope, referred to the quoiters as "t"hill and "t"hole"

It's qianball, and it's one of the rather few things in the world which is half Chinese and half Danish.

It is usually played on a tennis court, with the ball attached to an elastic band which is tethered to a box in the middle of the court. Both players are the same side of the net, and you score a point when your opponent either misses the ball or hits it into the net.

There are some qianball videos on YouTube, but there are two pitfalls:

1. It's never going to be a televised sport, because most of the time you can't see the ball.
2. The commentary is nearly always in Danish.

Food futurologist Dr Morgaine Gaye wrote a report based on what she thought life would be like in 2069. in the report she predicted that in 2069 crowds would gather in large stadiums to watch quidditch on hoverboards. the hoverboard was invented in 2015 the but couldn't go as high as in the harry potter films but if they can be mass produced (unlikely)..
