Was at recording for Q series on 27th February and pre recording one question in Sandis' quiz was did the US only make 139 cars during WW2 ? She gave the answer as true.

Would love to know where you got the info from as given USA declared war on Japan, thus entering WW2, on 8th December 1941, yet car production in US didn't cease until 20th or so of February 1942. (Dates vary depending on website.)

I have found the number 139 on Google searches yet that only refers to 1943 with a number of over 600 given for 1944. (Again number varies depending on website but all over 600.)

Hi EJ, and kudos for one of the best usernames I've seen.

I believe the info was extracted from this lecture.

Again that person quotes the number 139. However if you read this forum, you'll see 139 mentioned in totally different context from being the total number;

" In particular, the auto industry says there were 139 cars built in 1943 and 610 built in 1944" plus another post quotes US government contracts complete with figures for new vehicles.

Repeats the 139 and 610 numbers.

Gives figures for an abbreviated 1942 production run.
To be pedantic, Sandi should have asked how many cars were made after US entered WW2 as sure they made more than 139 between September 1939 and December 1941 ;-)

So can I claim a moral victory and say Sandi was wrong ?
