The honeybee is one of the very few insects that produces food for man. Yet, one bee will only produce 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime. A harsh but meaningful purpose.

A honeybee will only ever use its stinger when either it feels its hive is being attacked or if it is to be handled. A honeybee dies when it stings someone because its stinger is made up of two barbed lancets of which there is no locking mechanism keeping the stinger in place. Thus, the bee leaves behind its stinger but also part of its digestive tract with muscles and nerves. Essentially, the bee stinging an object would involve the bee ripping itself into two pieces.
