Just back in the UK and saw the Naval Matters show. They got the shipping lights wrong. Whilst they got port and starboard correct there was no steaming light or lights (a white light on the centreline above the navigation lights). So the vessel was underway BUT not making way...ie it was going nowhere albeit you were looking at the bow.
On a vessel >50m in length they show two white steaming lights, one above the other with the higher light near the stern. From the picture you could argue the vessel was very close so the after light might be obscured by parallax but for a vessel heading towsrds you there would be at least one steaming light visible.
