Hello all, I'm not sure if anyone with an exceptionally long memory might remember who I am. I once lurked on these forums for about four or five years sometime last decade with the name of another British Leyland product. I left sometime in early 2011 I think?
Anyway, something jogged my memory to see if the place was still going and lo and behold it is. Miraculous.
If any of you do remember, not a lot has happened in the past seven or eight years. Graduated university, got married, moved to America, became an improv comedian, formed a socialist organisation, got divorced, moved back from America, came out as gay, got a wonderful boyfriend, am going to start a masters next year, all that kind of joyous mess.
I notice a lot of familiar names from my tenure here last so nice to know lots of you stuck in for the long hall.
Hopefully I'll try and be back now. Maybe!

If you were lurking, no one would have known what your username was!

Welcome anyway.

EDIT: Oh, it seems that you didn't lurk, but posted many times:

http://old.qi.com/talk/search.php?mode=results

EDIT (2): I can get a list of your search results to come up, but if I post a link to the board it just appears as a link to the search page. Other people will just have to search for a link to posts by author "austinallegro".

As you have discovered, it is not possible to create a link to the results of a search. That is a limitation of the forum software which was actually addressed in a later release, the one that we can't upgrade to because to do so would break other stuff!

As for our returning British Leyland-themed friend, I remember him well. As he says, nothing at all seems to have happened in his life since last he was here!

Welcome back! Like you, hardly anything happened to me over the last few years. Kidney transplant, Pneumonia, lost home, then job, then driving licence, became full-time carer to dementia-ridden parents. Now only carer to my mum. Will be moving to Wales as soon as we can arrange care home for her.

same old, same old........

Hi austin/morris,

Of course I remember you; nice to have you back-ish.
Life has thrown you a few curveballs, it seems. Lots of things happened in my life too, since you buggered off, the main thing being that I moved back to Cloggyland, which triggered Brexit. Honest - two weeks after I left Perfide Albion, all hell broke loose. :-)

Hi, austin (as was)

Nice to see you back. I thought you were already out, but it seems my memory worsens...Do tell about the socialist organisation you founded in the US.

Apart from now being semi-retired and semi-decrepit, no change here. Oh, hang on - we now have a dog.

Ohhh I formed a chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America, who I got involved with in the aftermath of the 2016 election. (I was there in the US when that all went down so I was a campaign volunteer for the Dems at the time)
We're about fifty strong now paying members wise (I was living in Spokane, Washington, if you're looking for where) so we're the second largest group in Washington state second to Seattle which is good.

To be fair, Spokane is the second largest city in Washington behind Seattle and so it's not a huge surprise if it has the state's second largest membership in any organization. On the other hand, it's a city which tends Republican and so you did pretty well to get any kind of socialist group established there.

Now that you're back in England, is it the Labour Party of Jeremy Corbyn for you, or one of the smaller parties of the harder left?

Welcome back, fellah!
Did we not meet up briefly in Oxford where you had a spare ticket for a ralk and book promotion by an ex-Cantabridgian named Fry?
I still look after motorways, on a part-time basis, now, as i am getting old..
Our marvellous cat Theo died 3 months ago, and we still miss him a lot.
Other than that, plus ša change, and all that.

And i am glad to see 'yorz accept responsibility for Brexit. Long overdue, in mine 'umble. 😉

Seems like you have had a QI time of it!

Yeah, Eastern Washington is a very interesting place politically. Especially if you cross the border into Northern Idaho about half an hour away, that area is less Trump-supporting and more 'seriously there are groups of white supremacists and groups like the Aryan Nations squirreled away in the woods.'
For my sins I am a Labour member. I thought I would have missed most of the storm in the teacup stuff, only to get back in time for a bout of *actual* drama. How fun.
And I remember you tetsabb! I remember that night well. Happily I managed to go to *another* book signing/talk by Fry when he released his third volume of autobiog a few years back.
