If you open a box of Quaker Oats in 1955, you could have been the proud owner of a 1 inch square of Candian Yukon.

Quaker Oats paid $1000 for just over 19 acres of land and divided it into 21 million tiny deeds of land.

You didn't own any mineral rights to your land, but i'm not sure how much gold could be mined from a square inch plot.

However, it turns out the deeds were not legally binding and quaker owned the 19 acres until Quaker forgot to pay property taxes in 1965 so relinquished ownership back to Canada. But with millions of children thinking they have legal rights to their land, it has just caused mountains of correspondents from disappointed children.
