(NOTE: Full current rules, including a list of "dead" names, in this thread.)

This is an old game that was killed off in the "Great Purge" of 2009 (before I joined the forum). A version was transferred to another forum here, but didn't last too long. I've tried to reconstruct the rules from there, but if anyone remembers the game from before 2009, please tell me if I've got the rules wrong.

The first player gives the name of a famous person, living or dead, with a brief description of what they're famous for. The second player can change either the first name or the surname to give the name of another famous person. After that, players are required to alternate between changing the first name and changing the surname (e.g. Theresa May, Brian May, Brian Cox, Jo Cox, Jo Durie, ...).

There was a scoring system whereby if you gave a name that no one else could follow, you gained a point. It seems as though half-points were also available, though I don't know how you got them. I'm not too bothered about keeping score this time round though.

I'll start with:

Elton John
British singer, pianist and composer

Bzzt. That was Stratford Johns.

I expect you probably lose a point or something. Does someone else want to follow "Elton John"?

No sorry ali, I don't think it works like that. Big Martin changed the surname, so the next player has to change the first name, and so on alternately.

Brenda Dean

Former general secretary of SOGAT, who died earlier this year - the first woman elected to head a major industrial trade union.

I could have come up with another one there, what with it being my name and everything..........

Why did you edit my post? I said "I expect you probably lose a point or something", indicating that I wasn't bothered about keeping score - as I'd already said.

Well there's her husband Nicholas Krestovnikoff, but he seems to be mainly famous for being married to her:

So I would assume that Ali gets a point for that, but frankly I don't know because I wasn't around when the rules were originally drawn up.

There must be someone here who remembers the original rules, surely? It seemed to be quite popular at the time.
