An extinct species of Lorikeet was discovered in 1987 in the Marquesas islands and the Cook islands. It was found in the 1000AD layer of the archaeological dig but no later than 1200AD. A desription was written by David Steadman and Marie Zariello. It's Latin name is Vini Vidivici, based on Caesar's declaration meaning "i came, i saw, I conquered", as they thought it reflected the situation of the prehistoric birds when Man arrived on their islands.
