Japan's first anime feature film was a 1945 propaganda film commissioned the the Naval Ministry, which stars among others Popeye.

Momotaro, Sacred Sailors is a 74-minute long film which features among other things "heroic" Japanese anthroporphic animals parachuting onto "Devil's Island". Among the devils on the island the Japanese animals defeat include devil versions of both Popeye and Bluto.

The film is released in the UK for the first time next month.

Popeye himself was, as you may know, was a character designed to promote spinach and many believe this to be a result of a study which misplaced the decimal point (it determined the iron levels in the food to be ten times higher than they are in reality).

"According to the work of Mike Sutton in 2010, the original error was not due to a misplaced decimal point, but more likely the result of bad scientific practice including specimen contamination, and the use of charcoal in heating. Furthermore, Sutton claims that Popeye wasn’t eating the spinach for its iron content anyway, but for its Vitamin A content, or at least he was according to his creator, E.C. Segar. And you’d imagine he’d know." - http://www.sciencemadesimple.co.uk/exploring-science/the-great-popeye-spinach-decimal-point-myth

Which is good because although spinach contains iron, far from being a good source of it as far as the human body is concerned, some of its constituent compounds roam the stomach mopping up any stray iron already there.
