What is a nun's priest?

In the middle ages (which apparently lasted until the late twentieth century and continues to this day in the Catholic church), women were not allowed to be priests. Nuns, whose lives were devoted to Christ, still needed somebody to say mass for them and take confession. Hence, the nun's priest.

Thanks! I began reading Chaucer decades ago and it only occurred to me recently that I did not know what that phrase meant.
