hmm - that could easily be the subject of a Masters thesis. The correlation between society and society's view of sexual displays.

That doesn't mean anything; what aspect of society? The mere fact of its existence?

Your thesis title and subject need work bob.

Over in Scotland, an inspector for the fisheries commission is currently in the process of taking them to court.

Amongst her complaints, she has complained of extreme racist abuse (the woman in question originally being from Canada), abusive and intimidatory behaviour towards other female employees and continuous harassment for years.

Furthermore, she has also complained that, back in 2010, having made a formal complaint about the behaviour of staff within her office, she was duct taped to an office chair and then gagged by two of her colleagues, who then proceeded to threaten her for "speaking out against the boys" in her office.

For good measure, it seems that one of the two men who attacked her then decided to take photographs of her whilst tied up and gagged as further blackmail material. On top of that, she claims that her line manager dismissed the event as harmless fun and a case of "boys just being boys", with the manager doing little more than "having a quiet word" with the two men involved. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-44222575

Sexual harassment isnít just about sex: Groundbreaking report details persistent hostility female scientists face

Quote:
Ask someone for an example of sexual harassment and they might cite a professorís insistent requests to a grad student for sex. But such lurid incidents account for only a small portion of a serious and widespread harassment problem in science, according to a report released this week by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Two years in the making, the report describes pervasive and damaging ďgender harassmentĒóbehaviors that belittle women and make them feel they donít belong, including sexist comments and demeaning jokes. Between 17% and 50% of female science and medical students reported this kind of harassment in large surveys conducted by two major university systems across 36 campuses.

Surely the most cogent question is why he was only convicted of tyhe less serious charges...

Did he not get found guilty of all charges he faced yesterday? There are more to come

No, not as I understand it. He was convicted on the three lesser* charges. This is what was said in lots of places - for instance the Grauniad:

Weinstein was acquitted of three further charges, including the two most serious counts of predatory sexual assault which carried a possible life sentence and an alternative count of rape in the first degree.

There are, but (again AIUI) not from this trial in new york. He faces further prosecutions in California.

* I'm not in anyway suggesting that these were not also very serious crimes - they are "lesser" only in that they attract less severe sentences

After five days of deliberation, the jury finds Weinstein guilty of a criminal sexual act in the first degree and third-degree rape.
The 67-year-old is convicted of sexually assaulting former production assistant Mimi Haleyi in 2006 and raping ex-actress Jessica Mann in 2013.
He is acquitted of first-degree rape and two counts of predatory sexual assault, charges that could have seen him jailed for life.
Though cleared of the most serious charges made against him, the producer still faces up to 25 years in prison on the sexual assault conviction.
Judge James Burke orders Weinstein to be held in custody and schedules a sentencing hearing for 11 March.

Are they suggesting that "predatory sexual assault" is worse than "first degree rape" - I'm not sure I follow that logic.

They aren't. They are suggesting that "First Degree Rape and two counts of Predatory Sexual Assault" is more serious than "a criminal sexual act in the first degree and third-degree rape".

Mike Bloomberg claimed at the Democratic debate on Tuesday night to have got rid of sundry NDAs - will be interesting to see if anything comes forward as a result of that.
